The Serious Macintosh Users Group (SMUG) was born in 1984, one of the first such user groups dedicated to a little box that would change the word. David White, Stephen Rollins, etc. formed the group to provide Macintosh users in Bloomington, Indiana a place to find technical help and learn about Macintosh software and products through free demonstrations. As the group grew, their needs and interests evolved.
To improve and promote communication among its members, SMUG started their own BBS server on a group owned Macintosh computer, and continue the Mac tradition today by hosting this website on purely Apple technology and using group owned hardware to support other SMUG interests.
Through various leadership and a helpful and loyal membership, the Serious Macintosh Users Group has stood the tests of time and Apple tribulations to provide Macintosh friends and the curious a place to call home.
